The Rebel & the King : Elvis Presley Book

The Rebel & the King : Elvis Presley Book The Rebel & The King is a celebratory, first person account written by Academy Award nominated actor, Nick Adams, about his close friendship with Elvis Presley, during their whirlwind eight days in Memphis when Presley returned to Tupelo for his Homecoming Concert in 1956. Posthumously published by Nick Adams’ daughter, Allyson Adams, after she discovered the unedited manuscript in a box of her father’s memorabilia. Book includes facsimile of original text, edited version, 15 photos (some never before seen), and foreword by Allyson Adams. Elvis Presley had just exploded on the American scene and was filming his first movie, Love Me Tender, when he introduced himself to Nick Adams on the backlot of 20th Century Fox. Nick was a struggling actor, part of the 'Rebel Without A Cause' gang and showed Elvis the town, introducing him to Natalie Wood. Nick was infamous for writing about his famous friends, including James Dean, and he and Elvis became fast friends. 'I would rather live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb. And that was the first thing that came to my mind when I sat down to write this story about Elvis'. 'He was real down to earth and sincere and very humble', Adams writes of Presley. Nick Adams, 1956.

As Kathy's close friend, I've gotten to know the woman Elvis introduced to us as, 'the little girl with the beautiful high voice'. Inside Graceland : Elvis' Maid Remembers : Elvis Presley Book : [Paperback]

Inside Graceland : Elvis' Maid Remembers : Elvis Presley Book : [Paperback] If you wanted a picture of the life of Elvis Presley, who better to paint it for you than someone who worked as his trusted cook and maid at Graceland? Someone whose daily tasks centered around keeping the 'King of Rock & Roll' happy, whose every move was designed to please the greatest music legend the entertainment world has ever known. Inside Graceland - Elvis' Maid Remembers is the best Elvis book I have ever read and I have read many.most Elvis books have a small mention of Elvis' grandmother and his aunt Delta but Nancy tells us a lot about these two strong women. I really liked learning more about them also Nancy goes into great detail about Elvis and his last days. I also enjoyed the stories about the strange things that went on in Graceland after Elvis died. Nancy also mentions Lisa's marriages. and tells us a little about that this is just a very very interesting book on Elvis as well as the Presley family. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could!

It gives us a rare glimpse at the landscape in which Elvis lived, recorded, performed, and made movies, and a unique perspective on the frantic touring schedules of his early years, the hysteria of the fans, the network TV specials, the army, the movies, and the comeback tour of his final years. I have brought the book to Memphis and used it as a guide to visiting some out-of-the-way places. Elvis was a lot more than Graceland and Sun. If you are interested in other locations which assisted in his formative years, take this book to Memphis and look up some of the addresses listed. You'll gain a better appreciation for the King.

Elvis Presley : Reluctant Rebel : Book

Elvis Presley : Reluctant Rebel : Book After the large amount of - excellent - picture book releases, it's good to welcome a new book that focusses on the text content. 'Before Elvis there was nothing', John Lennon famously said. Few performers have been as influential as the man whose sexy voice, good looks, and gyrating hips redefined rock 'n roll. Although he made many poor choices and died far too young, Elvis Presley lives on for legions of fans and generations of musicians. In Elvis Presley, Reluctant Rebel, the little boy from Tupelo who could, Elvis Aaron Presley, finally has the chance to shine through and break the yellowed, cracked veneer that is the Golden Tomb of the American Dream. In the war between Elvis fact and fiction, this highly entertaining and lovingly researched book details the historic, spiritual and commercial aspects of Elvis Presley.

Dr. Nichopoulos spent a decade with Elvis on the road and at Graceland, trying to maintain the precarious health of one of the world's greatest entertainers. But on August 16, 1977, he found himself in the ambulance with Elvis on that fateful last trip to the ER. He signed the death certificate. From that day forward, Dr. Nick became the focus of a media witch hunt which threatened his life and all but destroyed his professional reputation. My Years With Elvis And The Colonel by Charles Stone : Elvis Presley Book

My Years With Elvis And The Colonel by Charles Stone : Elvis Presley Book My Years With Elvis And The Colonel by Charles Stone which is definitively the very first book about 'Elvis & The Colonel' that is written by a guy who was there. The storyline is based on Charles' memories, unlike some previous Colonel books that were based on false assumptions and fabricated stories told by a third party. We all know that with the passing of Colonel Parker in 1997, not only the person of Colonel Parker was gone forever, but also gone were all of his memories. During his lifetime, neither 'the Colonel' nor his righthand man, Tom Diskin wrote a book about the times with Elvis.

Rockabilly : The Twang Heard 'Round the World : The Illustrated History [Hardcover]

Rockabilly : The Twang Heard 'Round the World : The Illustrated History [Hardcover] Born out of Elvis Presley's improvisational cut of That's All Right recorded at Sun Records in 1954, Rockabilly's time under the spotlight was brief, but its reverberating influence still rings true. Rockabilly : The Twang Heard 'Round the World, much like the music, is a frantic journey, full of passion and charisma. A blend of bluegrass, jazz, and Hillbilly that predates both rock 'n' roll and country, the origins of the term 'Rockabilly' eludes even its most famous figures. Burgess's tales of touring with Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison make clear that showmanship was prerequisite to the style that encompassed such greats as Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. Interviews with lesser known musicians like Charlie Feathers give the story a personal touch. In varying manifestations, bona fide Rockabilly principles have endured from the 1970s European revival, through the brash 'Psychobilly' of The Stray Cats and The Cramps, and on to the current new wave. Over 600 photographs and images of original tour posters, vinyl sleeves, and paraphernalia provide an electrifying account orchestrated with an authenticity that only adds to its already overwhelming worldwide appeal. Michael Dregni (Author), Sonny Burgess (Foreword), Greil Marcus (Contributor), Peter Guralnick (Contributor), Luc Sante (Contributor), Robert Gordon (Contributor).

Race, Rock, and Elvis (Music in American Life) [Paperback] : Elvis Presley Book

Race, Rock, and Elvis (Music in American Life) [Paperback] : Elvis Presley Book It was teenagers who bought Elvis Presley's records, in enormous numbers. And in Race, Rock, and Elvis (Music in American Life) [Paperback] Michael T. Bertrand's convincingly argues that the black-and-white character of the sound, as well as Elvis' own persona, helped to relax the rigid color line and thereby fed the fires of the civil rights movement... A sobering lesson for historians who scoff at popular culture (and the oral testimony that peppers the book) as trivia for the tenured.' -- Karal Ann Marling, American Historical Review 'Bertrand has managed to argue more cogently and with more evidential authority than any previous commentator that the music that Elvis Presley and his rockabilly cousins fashioned in the South in the 1950s represented a serious threat to various national and regional social conventions, particularly those relating to race, class, and gender'. -- Brian Ward.

Memphis Elvis-Style : Elvis presley Book

Memphis Elvis-Style : Elvis presley Book Elvis Memphis Style is the ultimate read for any Elvis fan. Especially if they are going to spend any time in Memphis. It's eerie, even chilling, to walk the grounds where Elvis walked as a teenager, and even during stardom. This is a step-by-step narrative of how to find nearly every address related to Elvis in Memphis, and every one of them with a used-to-be secret. It's really cool! Over 125 places in Memphis, great and small, that had a part in Elvis Presley's story. Many were no longer standing in 1997, and we could only describe what was once there. Now, more the eleven years later, even more places have changed. But the history of Elvis Presley, has not changed. The information we gathered here is valid today. Today. This book is highly recommended !!!

Return of the King : Elvis Presley's Great '68 Comeback : Paperback

Return of the King : Elvis Presley's Great '68 Comeback : Paperback On January 1, 1967, a new contract between 'Colonel' Tom Parker and his sole client, Elvis Presley, gave Parker a 50 per cent cut of royalties and profits that Presley generated. It was an unashamed grab for a bigger piece of a pie that had actually been shrinking for some time. Parker's plan to re-establish Presley as a star after he left the army in 1960 had been successful at first, with the success of films like 'G.I. Blues' and 'Blue Hawaii' and their soundtracks. But as the decade progressed the films became formulaic, the music bland, and sales declined. By 1967 Presley's singles struggled to break the top 20, and he hadn't had a number one for six years. Yet by the end of 1968 he was artistically revitalized, re-emerging in a TV comeback special of December that year slimmed down for the now iconic black leather suit, playing country-soul influenced rock like he meant it and loved it. It was the pivotal moment of the second great period of Presley's career, which lasted through to the end of 1970, during which he recorded some of his most enduring records, including 'Suspicious Minds' and 'In The Ghetto'. In 'Return Of The King' author Gillian Gaar shows how Presley reclaimed his crown, making an extraordinary transition from fading MoR balladeer to engaged, vital artist.

Elvis Like Any Other Soldier Hardcover Book by Jerry Osborne & Barbara Hahn

Elvis Like Any Other Soldier Hardcover Book by Jerry Osborne & Barbara Hahn Elvis Like Any Other Soldier Special 50th Anniversary Edition is the ultimate book on Elvis' army years. While it is packed full of 1500 great photos, we would not describe this as a photo book as such because it is equally or more so jam packed full of information and fine detail on Elvis' two years of military service that makes this book the ultimate reference book. While the photos are all of good qulaity they are not of the photographic paper qulality of say, The Elvis Files Volume 2, 1957-1959 and Volume 3, 1960-1964, A Date With Elvis : The Army Years Revisited, Elvis à Paris, or The Ultimate Elvis In Munich Book. This new edition keeps the fine detail of the original with fascinating insights provided by Elvis' army buddies. As first hand accounts of Presley's life and times begins to fall victim to time, was wonderful too see these memories and moments preserved forever. For the first time, instead of being provided with glimpses and publicity shots of G.I. Elvis, we see him as he really was in heavy, heavy detail. This is a massive book, 2kg, over 500 pages, 29cm x 22cm. Hardcover, printed on glossy paper, color and black & white photo's. The Colonel - The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley

The Colonel - The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley The first quarter of a century of Parker's life is full of holes: remarkably little is known of what he did. This is perhaps less surprising for his early years as a child and youth in the Netherlands, but even the time following his two trips to the USA, when he was for a great deal of that time apparently a member of the US armed forces, his exact machinations are veiled, despite the clearly rigourous efforts of Alanna Nash to uncover exactly what he did and, indeed, who he was, for it seems he used more than one alias.
