Elvis Films FAQ : All That's Left To Know About the King Of Rock 'N' Roll In Hollywood

Elvis Films FAQ : All That's Left To Know About the King Of Rock 'N' Roll In Hollywood Elvis Films FAQ : All That's Left To Know About the King Of Rock 'N' Roll In Hollywood by Paul Simpson : If Elvis Presley had not wanted to be a movie star, he would never have single-handedly revolutionized popular culture. Yet this aspect of his phenomenal career has been much maligned and misunderstood partly because the King himself once referred to his 33 movies as a rut he had got stuck in just off Hollywood Boulevard. Elvis Films FAQ explores his best and worst moments as an actor, analyzes the bizarre autobiographical detail that runs through so many of his films, and reflects on what it must be like to be idolized by millions around the world yet have to make a living singing about dogs, chambers of commerce, and fatally naive shrimps.

Elvis' Hollywood years are full of mystery, and Elvis Films FAQ covers them all! Which of his own movies did he actually like? What films did he wish he could have made? Why didn't he have an acting coach? When will Quentin Tarantino stop alluding to him in his movies? And was Clambake really the catalyst for his marriage to Priscilla? Elvis Films FAQ explains everything you want to know about the whys and wherefores of the singer-actor's bizarre celluloid odyssey; or, as Elvis said, 'I saw the movie and I was the hero of the movie'.

Scotty & Elvis : Aboard the Mystery Train Book

Scotty & Elvis : Aboard the Mystery Train Book When Elvis Presley first showed up at Sam Phillips's Memphis-based Sun Records studio, he was a shy teenager in search of a sound. Phillips invited a local guitarist named Scotty Moore to stand in. Scotty listened carefully to the young singer and immediately realized that Elvis had something special. Along with bass player Bill Black, the triorecorded an old blues number called 'That's All Right, Mama'. It turned out to be Elvis' first single and the defining record of his early style, with a trillingguitar hook that swirled country and blues together and minted a sound with unforgettable appeal. Its success launched a whirlwind of touring, radio appearances, and Elvis' first break into movies. Scotty was there every step of the way as both guitarist and manager, until Elvis' new manager, Colonel Tom Parker, pushed him out. Scotty and Elvis would not perform together again until the classic 1968 'comeback' television special. Scotty never saw Elvis after that.

The Rebel & the King : Elvis Presley Book

The Rebel & the King : Elvis Presley Book The Rebel & The King is a celebratory, first person account written by Academy Award nominated actor, Nick Adams, about his close friendship with Elvis Presley, during their whirlwind eight days in Memphis when Presley returned to Tupelo for his Homecoming Concert in 1956. Posthumously published by Nick Adams’ daughter, Allyson Adams, after she discovered the unedited manuscript in a box of her father’s memorabilia. Book includes facsimile of original text, edited version, 15 photos (some never before seen), and foreword by Allyson Adams. Elvis Presley had just exploded on the American scene and was filming his first movie, Love Me Tender, when he introduced himself to Nick Adams on the backlot of 20th Century Fox. Nick was a struggling actor, part of the 'Rebel Without A Cause' gang and showed Elvis the town, introducing him to Natalie Wood. Nick was infamous for writing about his famous friends, including James Dean, and he and Elvis became fast friends. 'I would rather live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb. And that was the first thing that came to my mind when I sat down to write this story about Elvis'. 'He was real down to earth and sincere and very humble', Adams writes of Presley. Nick Adams, 1956.

Kathy Westmoreland: Elvis' Voice of an Angel : Elvis Presley Book : [Paperback]

Kathy Westmoreland: Elvis' Voice of an Angel : Elvis Presley Book : [Paperback] Kathy Westmoreland : Elvis' Voice of an Angel contains 43 photos including numerous pictures of Elvis and Kathy by famed Elvis photographers Bob Heis and Keith Alverson This book spans Kathy's life before, during and after her years with Elvis Presley and includes interviews with friends from all three eras. It was in August of 1970, right after the release of That's The Way It Is, that the new soprano by the name of Kathy Westmoreland entered the picture. Kathy, as we soon found out, was not only Elvis' high voice singer, but also his confident, close friend and lover. Kathy continued to stand by his side until his death in 1977. As Kathy's close friend, I've gotten to know the woman Elvis introduced to us as, 'the little girl with the beautiful high voice'. Getting to know this wonderful, crazy personality has been a total delight, and one that needs to be shared with the world. It is with great pleasure I introduce to you, Kathy Westmoreland.

Inside Graceland : Elvis' Maid Remembers : Elvis Presley Book : [Paperback]

Inside Graceland : Elvis' Maid Remembers : Elvis Presley Book : [Paperback] If you wanted a picture of the life of Elvis Presley, who better to paint it for you than someone who worked as his trusted cook and maid at Graceland? Someone whose daily tasks centered around keeping the 'King of Rock & Roll' happy, whose every move was designed to please the greatest music legend the entertainment world has ever known. Inside Graceland - Elvis' Maid Remembers is the best Elvis book I have ever read and I have read many.most Elvis books have a small mention of Elvis' grandmother and his aunt Delta but Nancy tells us a lot about these two strong women. I really liked learning more about them also Nancy goes into great detail about Elvis and his last days. I also enjoyed the stories about the strange things that went on in Graceland after Elvis died. Nancy also mentions Lisa's marriages. and tells us a little about that this is just a very very interesting book on Elvis as well as the Presley family. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could!

Elvis Presley : Reluctant Rebel : Book

Elvis Presley : Reluctant Rebel : Book After the large amount of - excellent - picture book releases, it's good to welcome a new book that focusses on the text content. 'Before Elvis there was nothing', John Lennon famously said. Few performers have been as influential as the man whose sexy voice, good looks, and gyrating hips redefined rock 'n roll. Although he made many poor choices and died far too young, Elvis Presley lives on for legions of fans and generations of musicians. In Elvis Presley, Reluctant Rebel, the little boy from Tupelo who could, Elvis Aaron Presley, finally has the chance to shine through and break the yellowed, cracked veneer that is the Golden Tomb of the American Dream. In the war between Elvis fact and fiction, this highly entertaining and lovingly researched book details the historic, spiritual and commercial aspects of Elvis Presley.

My Years With Elvis And The Colonel by Charles Stone : Elvis Presley Book

My Years With Elvis And The Colonel by Charles Stone : Elvis Presley Book My Years With Elvis And The Colonel by Charles Stone which is definitively the very first book about 'Elvis & The Colonel' that is written by a guy who was there. The storyline is based on Charles' memories, unlike some previous Colonel books that were based on false assumptions and fabricated stories told by a third party. We all know that with the passing of Colonel Parker in 1997, not only the person of Colonel Parker was gone forever, but also gone were all of his memories. During his lifetime, neither 'the Colonel' nor his righthand man, Tom Diskin wrote a book about the times with Elvis.

Rockabilly : The Twang Heard 'Round the World : The Illustrated History [Hardcover]

Rockabilly : The Twang Heard 'Round the World : The Illustrated History [Hardcover] Born out of Elvis Presley's improvisational cut of That's All Right recorded at Sun Records in 1954, Rockabilly's time under the spotlight was brief, but its reverberating influence still rings true. Rockabilly : The Twang Heard 'Round the World, much like the music, is a frantic journey, full of passion and charisma. A blend of bluegrass, jazz, and Hillbilly that predates both rock 'n' roll and country, the origins of the term 'Rockabilly' eludes even its most famous figures. Burgess's tales of touring with Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison make clear that showmanship was prerequisite to the style that encompassed such greats as Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. Interviews with lesser known musicians like Charlie Feathers give the story a personal touch. In varying manifestations, bona fide Rockabilly principles have endured from the 1970s European revival, through the brash 'Psychobilly' of The Stray Cats and The Cramps, and on to the current new wave. Over 600 photographs and images of original tour posters, vinyl sleeves, and paraphernalia provide an electrifying account orchestrated with an authenticity that only adds to its already overwhelming worldwide appeal. Race, Rock, and Elvis (Music in American Life) [Paperback] : Elvis Presley Book

Race, Rock, and Elvis (Music in American Life) [Paperback] : Elvis Presley Book It was teenagers who bought Elvis Presley's records, in enormous numbers. And in Race, Rock, and Elvis (Music in American Life) [Paperback] Michael T. Bertrand's convincingly argues that the black-and-white character of the sound, as well as Elvis' own persona, helped to relax the rigid color line and thereby fed the fires of the civil rights movement... A sobering lesson for historians who scoff at popular culture (and the oral testimony that peppers the book) as trivia for the tenured.' -- Karal Ann Marling, American Historical Review 'Bertrand has managed to argue more cogently and with more evidential authority than any previous commentator that the music that Elvis Presley and his rockabilly cousins fashioned in the South in the 1950s represented a serious threat to various national and regional social conventions, particularly those relating to race, class, and gender'. -- Brian Ward.

Elvis : Live at Del Webb's Sahara Tahoe : The World's Best Kept Secret Book Elvis : Live at Del Webb's Sahara Tahoe - You were allowed to take pictures during concerts when Elvis was on tour, but during the engagements at Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe it was prohibited. Sue McCasland was among the very few fans who were able to take pictures. There was a much more intimate atmosphere in Tahoe, because of a smaller showroom, so the risk was higher to get caught while sneaking cameras into the showroom and taking pictures during the concert. With that knowledge, one can appreciate the value of Sue's photos - a real treasure, so to say. And fortunately, Sue has decided to share her personal treasure with the world. Elvis Like Any Other Soldier Hardcover Book by Jerry Osborne & Barbara Hahn Elvis Like Any Other Soldier Special 50th Anniversary Edition is the ultimate book on Elvis' army years. While it is packed full of 1500 great photos, we would not describe this as a photo book as such because it is equally or more so jam packed full of information and fine detail on Elvis' two years of military service that makes this book the ultimate reference book. While the photos are all of good qulaity they are not of the photographic paper qulality of say, The Elvis Files Volume 2, 1957-1959 and Volume 3, 1960-1964, A Date With Elvis : The Army Years Revisited, Elvis à Paris, or The Ultimate Elvis In Munich Book. This new edition keeps the fine detail of the original with fascinating insights provided by Elvis' army buddies. As first hand accounts of Presley's life and times begins to fall victim to time, was wonderful too see these memories and moments preserved forever. The Colonel - The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley

The Colonel - The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley The first quarter of a century of Parker's life is full of holes: remarkably little is known of what he did. This is perhaps less surprising for his early years as a child and youth in the Netherlands, but even the time following his two trips to the USA, when he was for a great deal of that time apparently a member of the US armed forces, his exact machinations are veiled, despite the clearly rigourous efforts of Alanna Nash to uncover exactly what he did and, indeed, who he was, for it seems he used more than one alias.

Yes it has all three elements - and in abundance - but the way it is formatted -- presented -- is completely new, refreshing, easy to read or just to flick though - (when time is limited) - and enjoy some great photos of Elvis, or read some quotes taken from the many interviews Ken has conducted ...
