 In the  FTD Classic Album series, it is now time for the first volume of 'G.I. Blues' material. As always in a 7" inch digi pack format with booklet. However, this time without the In-and-Outtakes section, which will be featured in Volume 2, in order to summarize all the G.I. BLUES recordings. A lot of effort (and money) has gone into making these the best sounding 'G.I. Blues' recordings ever.

Blues : The Cafe Europa Sessions 4 CD Deluxe Set contains nearly 4 hours of Elvis' officially Unreleased studio takes from the 'Café Europa' sessions, recorded for the movie ultimately titled G.I. Blues. The audio contained here includes the master recordings from the original soundtrack album 'G.I. Blues' plus, hours of alternate takes of all songs, with all the Elvis studio banter intact and, instilling new insight and live atmosphere into the complete making of this historic movie soundtrack. These recordings are transferred and processed in 24bit 192k stereo. In addition to these rare recordings, the set includes a 100 page book entertained with pages of unreleased photographs, memorabilia and goes behind the scenes, with full text and documentation and includes contributions from Ray Walker of the Jordanaires and a forward by songwriter Sid Tepper. Jailhouse Rock is a 2-disc set in the classic album series. Disc 1 features one disc of masters, alternate masters, movie masters and a few bonus cuts in mono. Disc 2 consists of session takes - all in binaural. The package features the 7" inch digipack format with 12-page booklet. There is no In And Outtakes section to the booklet, as FTD will be releasing 'Jailhouse Rock Vol. 2' next year, and it will make more sense to have this section when the entire intended repertoire content is released. This is a tremendous collection of stunning ballads and the rocking 'I slipped I stumbled I fell'. The outtakes are interesting and I haven't got tired of listening to 27 versions of 5 songs. Interestingly 'Husky Dusky Day' also appears and though very short (50 seconds) it is quite an amusing little ditty sung in duet with the lovely Hope Lang. One of the best FTD releases by far! The newly remixed audio quality is astounding - especially on the outtakes. With this release FTD corrects the error with the 1997 issued CD where they incorrectly reversed the stereo channels. |

The FTD label has been able to obtain a handful of movie versions from a brilliant tape source, and on disc 2 you get the opportunity to hear all takes of Elvis recording the title song 'Loving You' on February 14, 1957. You will get 15 takes of the main version in binaural as an extra bonus. |

This Clambake CD set gives you the original LP, then a batch of first takes and alternate takes. Beautiful packaging and detailed booklet help show the production process and how the songs came to be, and I have to say that 'Clambake' contains some of the most beautiful ballads of any Elvis film. Namely You Don't Know Me the Ray Charles classic and The Girl I Never Loved would have worked on any early 60's Elvis Is Back type LP. But then alas there is the up tempo film songs and they really are quite terrible. 'Who needs money' well I DO, to keep buying these new re-issues, so please FTD make it a worthwhile re-issue. Dont worry I have 'Confidence' in your decisions, theres no job to emmense for these guys haha. Clambake move soundtrack was helped by its great and I do mean Great bonus tracks, Guitar Man, Big Boss Man to name but two. |

Spinout a great album, a wonderful listening experience. From the classic title track and the lovely ballads such as 'Am I Ready' and 'All That I Am' to the great rock numbers 'Never Say Yes' and 'I'll Be Back' there appears to be something for everybody in this package. 'Never Say Yes' is a wonderful song and is even more enjoyable when heard on its out-take forms and alos do treat yourself to the out-take of the ballad 'Am I Ready', you will find it fuller and, even it is hard to admit, better than the original take on many levels. Plus don't forget the silly numbers (every Elvis movie has them!) 'Beach Shack' and 'Smorgasbord' and it still turns out to be an unexpected enjoyable mid-60's Elvis listening experience. But, the icing on the cake on this ablum are the brilliant bonus songs 'Tomorrow Is A Long Time', 'Down In The Alley' and the beautiful 'I'll Remember You'. I cannot find the words to describe my emotions for these three gems - you will just have to buy the album for the total experience! |
