 The Perfect Elvis Presley Collection is a collection of 20 original Elvis albums from Sony Music, all kept together in a set up along the lines of the Singles box sets from the years 2005 and 2007. The set comes with a nice booklet with notes on each album, and it is particularly nice to have the original front and back cover art on the albums, one in particular, Aloha From Hawaii we have not had for a while [picture at right]. All are presented as per an original LP in cardboard sleeve enclosed in a solid display box. All around, a good set of albums for those that just want the basics and not all the extra alternate takes and deluxe packaging of the FTD Collectors label Classic Album Series [ Which are all highly recommended by the way.] |

The King Of Rock 'N' Roll : The Complete 50's Masters five CD box set 2012 re-issue. Like previous 'bookset' reissues of the 60s and 70s masters Boxes, there appear to be all 'pros' and very few 'cons' with this release. The content hasn't changed, simply reconfigured into the shelf-friendly DVD-sized 'bookset'. You still get every studio master released by Elvis in the 1950s, as well as rare recordings (My Happiness and That's When Your Heartaches Begin from 1953) and various alternate takes / outtakes and live cuts. In total, 140 tracks tell the story from the early Sun Records recordings, and the RCA signing, until Elvis put his recording career on hold when joined the army in 1958. The 44-page booklet contains the same Peter Guralnick essay as the original, guiding us through Elvis'career-defining early years in an informative and entertaining manner. There is also a 'sessionograhy' detailing all the recording sessions, as well as a discography. An abundance of photos including album covers, posters record labels evoke the era perfectly. |

  The Special Delivery : The Ultimate Elvis Presley Collectors Box contains an unbelievable soft cover book promoted in the pre-publicity as a 'unique 60-page Elvis & Priscilla Wedding Album', while I felt sure this was going to be the highlight of the box set I was not prepared for how comprehensive it is, and I must admit I did not know there where so many high quality photos of Elvis and Priscilla's Wedding available. It contains both detailed information and photos, measures 15 1/2 inches [16.5cm] x 9 inches [23.5cm] and you would expect to pay around $59.95 for it on its own. The size of the book makes it easy to handle and look through without being too small. You don't have to store it away on a bookshelf, it can be kept handy to be used and enjoyed. Although it does come in a nice collectors box!!! It is something I [and anyone that buys a set] will keep forever and I have not doubt whatsoever that both Priscilla and Lisa Marie would appreciate it if the producers would send them a copy each. However as the set is almost sold out that may be a problem. Next up we have the 'Fame And Fortune' CD. Now I enjoyed listening to this immensely, it contains 26 tracks all alternate takes and they combine nicely. This I have no doubt is quite valuable as only 1000 were pressed but if it were to be sold individually normally you would expect to pay around $40. The CD is titled 'Fame And Fortune' and contains a total of 13 previously unreleased studio out takes along with a further 13 tracks. |
