Walk A Mile In My Shoes: The Essential 70's Masters has been packaged in a DVD sized ecolbook, the width of a normal CD. Very nice book style presentation !!! It contains 120 tracks recorded in the 1970s, including 27 previously unreleased takes and chronicles the most complex period of Elvis' life through his music. It features every single A & B side released between January 1970 and August 1977, many great studio highlights, and a disc dedicated to the Elvis live. Contains studio recordings of My Way (Master), It's Diff'rent Now (Rehearsal), For The Good Times (Master), I Shall Be Released (Informal Recording), Lady Madonna (Informal Recording) The Twelfth Of Never (Rehearsal), Softly As I Leave You (Rehearsal), Alle' en el 'Rancho Grande' (Informal Rehearsal) and Froggy Went A Courtin' (Informal Rehearsal).

  Sony Music release of 'Prince From Another Planet', a Madison Square Garden 40th Anniversary 2 CD / DVD Deluxe Set in 8" x 8" packaging. The two remastered CDs are of the June 10th afternoon and evening shows, both remixed by Michael Brauer [* Info] and a 40 minute DVD with never-before-seen footage of Elvis' performance at the Saturday afternoon show, captured on hand-held camera by a fan, and now acquired by Legacy from that fan decades later for this package. Along with the concert film on the DVD is another video document, the press conference that took place on Friday afternoon before the big weekend. Attended by Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis' father, Vernon Presley, Elvis disarms and wins over the New York press corps with his good-natured demeanor. For example, When asked, for example, 'Which kind of song do you like doing the best?' - Elvis answers, 'I like to mix 'em up. In other words, I like to do a song like 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' or 'American Trilogy', or something. Then mix it up and do some rock and roll, some of the hard rock stuff. I'm not the least bit ashamed of 'Hound Dog' or 'Heartbreak Hotel' ...' Rarely is unseen footage of Elvis in concert discovered, so this footage lends historical importance to the package. The film is a revealing portrait of a physically commanding Elvis and his powerhouse TCB Band, background vocalists, and orchestra. Also included is a 48 page booklet with liner notes - a 5000 word essay - by Patti Smith's guitarist Lenny Kaye who attended the June 10th show as young reporter for Rolling Stone Magazine will add a special touch to the set.
The original MSG release was rush released and as a consequence did not receive the mastering it deserved. This time Michael Brauer states that the sound is awesome and just like being in the Arena with Elvis!

As you know the original concept album was never released and it's possible that the version FTD create was never meant to be, but it's the best way to present the Las Vegas masters from February of 1972 and the masters and outtakes from the March 1972 sessions at RCA.  Standing Room Only was the working title for the Elvis On Tour Movie. This CD features studio recording some of which were performed live in On Tour. Also available Elvis On Tour - The Rehearsals features recordings from RCA’s studios in Hollywood in March 1972. |

FTD release of 3000 South Paradise Road a 2 disc 7" 'Classic Album' format with a 16-page booklet. This release takes a closer look at Elvis' engagement at the Las Vegas Hilton with a soundboard recording in August of 1972. The main disc is from the dinner show on August 12, and the second disc is culled from the rehearsals on August 4th, the date of the opening of the engagement. As with '48 Hours To Memphis', this release has been prepared by Robert Frieser and Hans Slebos, who once again has done a fabulous job of collecting information and materials for the project. There will be additional information in the next few weeks. '3000 South Paradise Road' provides a unique experience of Elvis rehearsing, 6 hours before the opening night at the Las Vegas Hilton on August 4, 1972. As disc 2 is captured on a personal tape recorder, the sonic quality is below standards, but historical significance more than compensates for its audio limitations.
This is a unique performance by Elvis with stand out songs, What Now My Love, My Way, An American Trilogy and Fever. The quality of the music having a separation contributing to the overall performance that one normally only associates with stereo recordings. FTD have chosen to present this concert in their 7" size Classic Album packaging and it comes with a fantastic booklet with liner notes that are very well written and well worth reading, and it is nice to see Elvis on stage in a two piece non-jumpsuit outfit, clearly still in his prime. It is clear how much Elvis valued and wanted to perform What Now My Love this day, August 12, 1972 with his comment about getting serious before starting the song, and he performs in near flawlessly. And of particular interest are Elvis' comments after My Way, where he says 'that's a very good song ... I wouldn't want to associate it with my own personal life ... now the end is near and all that jazz... it's a nice song, it's okay for Sinatra but ... I haven't even ate it up and spit it out yet, still chewing on it ... no it's a good song ... And indeed as indicated above, What Now My Love and My Way : two great performances, and totally unique. So in a word, do I recommend this release : YES! |

Elvis On Tour - The Rehearsals features recordings from RCA’s studios in Hollywood in March 1972, which were conducted in association with that year's MGM concert film Elvis on Tour. The CD covers Elvis rehearsals for his upcoming tour, combining classic Elvis live repertoire with some of his new studio material. There have been a lot of 'rehearsal' Elvis CDs to come out, but this one is by far the best. First of all, it almost sounds like a studio album. The songs are mostly complete without a bunch of mistakes and a do-overs and most sound really great. There isn't any joking around, each track pretty much jumps strait to the next song. |

An American Trilogy contains Las Vegas Concert Recordings from the January/February 1972. This release covers Elvis' engagement at The Las Vegas Hilton in January-February, 1972. RCA did not record entire shows, and several of the new songs Elvis had added to his shows were only recorded once. The consequence is that the main body of the CD - the RCA recordings - feature several previously released versions. Soundboard recordings of other song performances during the engagement were added to the end of the disc in order to make this as representative as possible of Elvis’ repertoire at that time. This is for me a REAL pleasure to get a soundboard release from this summer in Las Vegas with enough 'bonus songs' to fill the running time to nearly 74 minutes AND represent Elvis' repertoire during this season. The representation here varies from the good to very good category, with several songs pretty excellent. Therefore even before I listen to the CD, I expected to be in for a treat ... |

Elvis As Recorded At Madision Square Garden, was recorded during the evening show on Saturday, June 10. In June 1972. Elvis Presley returned to New York City for his first performances there since his final appearance on Ed Sullivan's 'Talk of the Town' more than 15 years earlier. His shows at Madison Square Garden were, in fact, his first full concerts in New York: during previous visits to the Big Apple, Presley had only performed a few numbers in television studios. Accordingly, Presley's four shows at Madison Square Garden were huge media events. As part of the pre-concert hype, RCA announced that it would release a live album of the concerts one week after the final show. |
