From Elvis In Memphis : 40th Anniversary Legacy Edition - 2 CD Set contains 36 tracks across 2 CDs, including 10 original mono single masters. (And after all these were the actually hit records most have not actually heard!) This release commemorates the 40th Anniversary of Elvis' historic American Studio sessions that resulted in 'Suspicious Minds', 'In the Ghetto' and 'Kentucky Rain' among many others. The recordings have been remastered from the original album masters for optimum sound quality. After a 14-year absence from Memphis, Elvis Presley returned to cut what was certainly his greatest album (or, at least, a tie effort with his RCA debut LP, Elvis Presley, from early 1956). The fact that From Elvis in Memphis came out as well as it did is something of a surprise, in retrospect -- Presley had a backlog of songs he genuinely liked that he wanted to record and had heard some newer soul material that also attracted him, and none of it resembled the material that he'd been cutting since his last non-soundtrack album, six years earlier. And he'd just come off of the NBC television special which, although a lot of work, had led him to the realization that he could be as exciting and vital a performer in 1969 as he'd been a dozen years before. And for what was practically the last time, the singer cut his manager, Tom Parker, out of the equation, turning himself over to producer Chips Moman. The result was one of the greatest white soul albums (and one of the greatest soul albums) ever cut, with brief but considerable forays into country, pop, and blues as well. Presley sounds rejuvenated artistically throughout the dozen cuts off the original album, and he's supported by the best playing and backup singing of his entire recording history.   Sony Music release of 'Prince From Another Planet', a Madison Square Garden 40th Anniversary 2 CD / DVD Deluxe Set in 8" x 8" packaging. The two remastered CDs are of the June 10th afternoon and evening shows, both remixed by Michael Brauer [* Info] and a 40 minute DVD with never-before-seen footage of Elvis' performance at the Saturday afternoon show, captured on hand-held camera by a fan, and now acquired by Legacy from that fan decades later for this package. Along with the concert film on the DVD is another video document, the press conference that took place on Friday afternoon before the big weekend. Attended by Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis' father, Vernon Presley, Elvis disarms and wins over the New York press corps with his good-natured demeanor. For example, When asked, for example, 'Which kind of song do you like doing the best?' - Elvis answers, 'I like to mix 'em up. In other words, I like to do a song like 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' or 'American Trilogy', or something. Then mix it up and do some rock and roll, some of the hard rock stuff. I'm not the least bit ashamed of 'Hound Dog' or 'Heartbreak Hotel' ...' Rarely is unseen footage of Elvis in concert discovered, so this footage lends historical importance to the package. The film is a revealing portrait of a physically commanding Elvis and his powerhouse TCB Band, background vocalists, and orchestra. Also included is a 48 page booklet with liner notes - a 5000 word essay - by Patti Smith's guitarist Lenny Kaye who attended the June 10th show as young reporter for Rolling Stone Magazine will add a special touch to the set.
The original MSG release was rush released and as a consequence did not receive the mastering it deserved. This time Michael Brauer states that the sound is awesome and just like being in the Arena with Elvis!

How do you follow up an album like From Elvis In Memphis and the singles and follow up album that flowed from the 1969 recording sessions at Chip's Moman's Memphis American Sound Studio's? In February 1970 RCA recorded Elvis live in Las Vegas and released the classic live album, On Stage, but it was not until June of that year that Elvis re-entered a studio to cut an album proper.  Chicago Stadium is a fantastic time capsule of a much healthier, more focused Elvis as he began the final quarter of 1976 with a renewed sense of performing enthusiasm and that excitement comes through clearly both in Elvis' performance as well as the fan's reactions. All Elvis fans should dust off a space of honor on their shelf for Chicago Stadium!! The concert on disc 2 is simply superb and there is one song that sums up the difference in Elvis' performance on these two concerts, that being Early Morning Rain. On Disc 1 Elvis stops John Wilkinson 30 seconds into John's solo [that Elvis sings too], asking John 'can you put it up a key higher ... because I'm not J.D. Sumner ...' However the very next night Elvis nails this song beautifully taking my breath away as they say, and figuratively speaking, the first version takes Elvis' breath away! And this is how I find the two concerts, Disc 2 features HIGH QUALITY SOUND with a BRILLIANT performance. And you are getting here two CDs for the normal price of one!Both shows on Chicago Stadium are taken directly from the RCA soundboard tapes and are in great quality and this double CD set is highly recommended !!!

An American Trilogy contains Las Vegas Concert Recordings from the January/February 1972. This release covers Elvis' engagement at The Las Vegas Hilton in January-February, 1972. RCA did not record entire shows, and several of the new songs Elvis had added to his shows were only recorded once. The consequence is that the main body of the CD - the RCA recordings - feature several previously released versions. Soundboard recordings of other song performances during the engagement were added to the end of the disc in order to make this as representative as possible of Elvis’ repertoire at that time. This is a great CD - highly recommended to all fans. Sometimes living a long life has its rewards. Living to see this superb FTD album is surely one of them. Shorn of the intrusive post production dubs, orchestration and background harmonies of the original releases, and given some inspired sound mixing, the songs on this FTD release are a joy to listen to. The improvement in sound and feel of the original releases is remarkable, revealing an unsuspected vitality and energy, and consequently, the enjoyment the album delivers surpasses anything you can anticipate. Elvis As Recorded At Madision Square Garden, was recorded during the evening show on Saturday, June 10. In June 1972. Elvis Presley returned to New York City for his first performances there since his final appearance on Ed Sullivan's 'Talk of the Town' more than 15 years earlier. His shows at Madison Square Garden were, in fact, his first full concerts in New York: during previous visits to the Big Apple, Presley had only performed a few numbers in television studios. Accordingly, Presley's four shows at Madison Square Garden were huge media events. As part of the pre-concert hype, RCA announced that it would release a live album of the concerts one week after the final show. |

Through literally hundreds of photos : many previously unpublished : we get to join Elvis at his show in Detroit on May 25. We stay with the tour for two more days in Columbus and Dayton and finally arrive in Memphis on May 28.
