FTD Follow That Dream, Sony BMG's Official Elvis Presley Collectors label was established in 1999 to serve the dedicated Elvis collector and to complement the commercial and artistic level of RCA's retail release schedule by issuing repertoire that is considered of interest to serious Elvis fans and collectors, material that is generally not part of mainstream RCA label releases to the public at large.

There are the original Collectors CD's with CDs ranging from soundboard recorded concerts (Recorded from the mixing desk in mono) to full RCA professionally recorded concerts in stereo and some great alternate take CDs - Such as The Jungle Room Sessions and Memphis Sessions etc, later FTD introduced the Elvis Classic Album Series where they release the original Elvis albums in deluxe 7" size packaging with a booklet and a usually a second CD of out takes from the same period as the recordings on the album. There is also the Movie Soundtrack Series usually released as a single CD but again in deluxe 7" packaging with booklet.

Including two unreleased stereo recordings of You'll Never Walk Alone (Although short, it s unique!) & If I loved You / The Lord's Prayer. This release also features Elvis at the Eddie Fadal residence in Waco Texas approx may 1958. Elvis is having a ball with Anita Wood, Eddie Fadal & Janice Fadal. For the very first time you can hear the COMPLETE uncut tape including previously unreleased versions of Happy Happy Birthday Baby. Then you are treated on some home recordings that were recorded at Goethestrasse in Germany during his army days. Obviously these are home recordings recorded on a tape deck (two tape decks when it comes to the stereo recordings) but that is all forgotten when you hear Elvis relax in a private situation. All Shook Up is a professionally recorded RCA concert featuring Elvis' August 26, 1969 Las Vegas performance (midnight show) and Includes three (3) rare Live Recordings. Unique performances; Runaway, Rubberneckin' and This Is The Story and the laughing version of 'Are You Lonesome Tonight'. [It was actually Whitney Houston's mother, Cissy, was the cause of one of Elvis' most famous recordings, the 'laughing version' of 'Are You Lonesome Tonight?'. It was during Cissy Houston's soprano obbligato on 'Are You Lonesome Tonight?' that Elvis started laughing.] Of the concerts released from this 1969 Vegas season, the sound and performance on All Shook Up HAS to be the best so far! 3000 South Paradise Road 2 CD : FTD Special Edition / Classic Album 7" Presentation

FTD release of 3000 South Paradise Road a 2 disc 7" 'Classic Album' format with a 16-page booklet. This release takes a closer look at Elvis' engagement at the Las Vegas Hilton with a soundboard recording in August of 1972. The main disc is from the dinner show on August 12, and the second disc is culled from the rehearsals on August 4th, the date of the opening of the engagement. As with '48 Hours To Memphis', this release has been prepared by Robert Frieser and Hans Slebos, who once again has done a fabulous job of collecting information and materials for the project. There will be additional information in the next few weeks. '3000 South Paradise Road' provides a unique experience of Elvis rehearsing, 6 hours before the opening night at the Las Vegas Hilton on August 4, 1972. As disc 2 is captured on a personal tape recorder, the sonic quality is below standards, but historical significance more than compensates for its audio limitations.

This is a unique performance by Elvis with stand out songs, What Now My Love, My Way, An American Trilogy and Fever. The quality of the music having a separation contributing to the overall performance that one normally only associates with stereo recordings. FTD have chosen to present this concert in their 7" size Classic Album packaging and it comes with a fantastic booklet with liner notes that are very well written and well worth reading, and it is nice to see Elvis on stage in a two piece non-jumpsuit outfit, clearly still in his prime.

It is clear how much Elvis valued and wanted to perform What Now My Love this day, August 12, 1972 with his comment about getting serious before starting the song, and he performs in near flawlessly. And of particular interest are Elvis' comments after My Way, where he says 'that's a very good song ... I wouldn't want to associate it with my own personal life ... now the end is near and all that jazz... it's a nice song, it's okay for Sinatra but ... I haven't even ate it up and spit it out yet, still chewing on it ... no it's a good song ... And indeed as indicated above, What Now My Love and My Way : two great performances, and totally unique. So in a word, do I recommend this release : YES!

Prince From Another Planet : 40th Anniversary Madison Square Garden : 2 CD + DVD Set

Sony Music release of 'Prince From Another Planet', a Madison Square Garden 40th Anniversary 2 CD / DVD Deluxe Set in 8" x 8" packaging. The two remastered CDs are of the June 10th afternoon and evening shows, both remixed by Michael Brauer [* Info] and a 40 minute DVD with never-before-seen footage of Elvis' performance at the Saturday afternoon show, captured on hand-held camera by a fan, and now acquired by Legacy from that fan decades later for this package. Along with the concert film on the DVD is another video document, the press conference that took place on Friday afternoon before the big weekend. Attended by Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis' father, Vernon Presley, Elvis disarms and wins over the New York press corps with his good-natured demeanor. For example, When asked, for example, 'Which kind of song do you like doing the best?' - Elvis answers, 'I like to mix 'em up. In other words, I like to do a song like 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' or 'American Trilogy', or something. Then mix it up and do some rock and roll, some of the hard rock stuff. I'm not the least bit ashamed of 'Hound Dog' or 'Heartbreak Hotel' ...' Rarely is unseen footage of Elvis in concert discovered, so this footage lends historical importance to the package. The film is a revealing portrait of a physically commanding Elvis and his powerhouse TCB Band, background vocalists, and orchestra. Also included is a 48 page booklet with liner notes - a 5000 word essay - by Patti Smith's guitarist Lenny Kaye who attended the June 10th show as young reporter for Rolling Stone Magazine will add a special touch to the set.

The original MSG release was rush released and as a consequence did not receive the mastering it deserved. This time Michael Brauer states that the sound is awesome and just like being in the Arena with Elvis!

FTD release of Hits Of The 70s in the 2 CD Classic Album Series [7" Packaging presentation] : Originally released in the UK in 1974, this newly expanded edition offers a superb overview of Elvis' greatest songs in the '70s. While the album doesn't feature any outtakes, it does have a substantially expanded track-listing that now features 24 A & B sides and bonus track My Way. The 12-page booklet features both UK and US sleeves, release/chart information and historic overview. This is its first official release on CD.

48 Hours To Memphis CD : FTD Special Edition / Classic Album 7" Presentation

48 Hours to Memphis is a Live Concert recorded on March 18, 1974 in Richmond Virginia, 2 days before Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis. It is derived from what must have been a full professional 16-track multi track recording, the sound is absolutely great, and Elvis is in top form. While it is actually not stereo it is very high quality 'hi-fi' and not only is it not a soundboard it compares perfectly with normal stereo releases. The booklet is full of great pictures from the actual show and informative notes. The CD comes in a 7" digi format with a 16 page booklet.

All Elvis fans should dust off a space of honor on their shelf for Chicago Stadium!! The concert on disc 2 is simply superb and there is one song that sums up the difference in Elvis' performance on these two concerts, that being Early Morning Rain. On Disc 1 Elvis stops John Wilkinson 30 seconds into John's solo [that Elvis sings too], asking John 'can you put it up a key higher ... because I'm not J.D. Sumner ...' However the very next night Elvis nails this song beautifully taking my breath away as they say, and figuratively speaking, the first version takes Elvis' breath away! And this is how I find the two concerts, Disc 2 features HIGH QUALITY SOUND with a BRILLIANT performance. And you are getting here two CDs for the normal price of one!Both shows on Chicago Stadium are taken directly from the RCA soundboard tapes and are in great quality and this double CD set is highly recommended !!!

Interestingly 'Husky Dusky Day' also appears and though very short (50 seconds) it is quite an amusing little ditty sung in duet with the lovely Hope Lang. One of the best FTD releases by far!

Jailhouse Rock is a 2-disc set in the classic album series. Disc 1 features one disc of masters, alternate masters, movie masters and a few bonus cuts in mono. Disc 2 consists of session takes - all in binaural. The package features the 7" inch digipack format with 12-page booklet. There is no In And Outtakes section to the booklet, as FTD will be releasing 'Jailhouse Rock Vol. 2' next year, and it will make more sense to have this section when the entire intended repertoire content is released.
