The only live version of 'Rubberneckin' is here, along with other gems such as 'This Is The Story', 'Inherit The Wind' & 'Reconsider Baby'. The hard to find 'Are You Lonesome Tonight (laughing version)' is also here and sounds great within the context of such a dynamite live show. Elvis even sings 'Happy Birthday' to James Burton.

Like most of Elvis' 70s recordings, Promised Land is an eclectic mix reflecting Elvis Presley's many musical enthusiasms. The ten songs that make up this album run the gamut from country heartbreak songs ('There's a Honky Tonk Angel', 'Mr. Songman') to carnal white funk ('If You Talk in Your Sleep') to heartfelt gospel ('Help Me') to schmaltzy pop ('Love Song of the Year', 'It's Midnight'). While the performances on Promised Land are uniformly excellent, the material is a mixed bag of strong material and throwaways. The production is extravagant, typical of Presley recordings from this era. Those interested in hearing these songs in sparer settings might want to check out Rhythm And Country, a collection of undubbed alternate takes from the Stax sessions. | |

Elvis As Recorded At Madision Square Garden, was recorded during the evening show on Saturday, June 10. In June 1972. Elvis Presley returned to New York City for his first performances there since his final appearance on Ed Sullivan's 'Talk of the Town' more than 15 years earlier. His shows at Madison Square Garden were, in fact, his first full concerts in New York: during previous visits to the Big Apple, Presley had only performed a few numbers in television studios. Accordingly, Presley's four shows at Madison Square Garden were huge media events. As part of the pre-concert hype, RCA announced that it would release a live album of the concerts one week after the final show. | |

Elvis - That's The Way It Is 2 CD FTD Special Edition - So, you already have the 3-disc That's The Way It Is: Special Edition from 2000, what do you need with this new 2-disc version? Yes, There is over 40 minutes of new material on this 2008 version of That's The Way It Is. Most of the performances not previously released on earlier editions of That's The Way It Is, A Hundred Years From Now, and The Nashville Marathon are incomplete rehearsals and blown takes, though. However, there are some real gems on this release, including the multiple 'Patch It Up' takes. Plus, this edition pulls everything together in one nice package. It has improved sound quality on a number of the previously released alternate tracks. However, the slight degrading of sound quality on most of the master recordings compared to previous releases is disturbing. This is most noticeable with headphones and probably won't otherwise affect you. More Elvis Classic Albums. | |

While not, strictly speaking, a reissue, this collection brings together Elvis' last Top 10 hit (the title track) with other songs from the early '70s, plus some previously unreleased gems. Ironically, 'Burning Love' was never available on a 'proper' Elvis album -- it was stuck on a budget-priced album in the '70s with some less-than-memorable songs from Elvis Presley's movies. Burning Love is the great early '70s album that never was. The King is in fine vocal form throughout, still capable of inserting dark, animalistic growls into 'Hound Dog' and the previously unissued medley of 'Little Sister' and the Beatles' 'Get Back'. Elvis brings a real intensity to pop standards 'For the Good Times' and 'It's Impossible'. The gem here is 'I'm Leavin', with its unusual melodic construction and haunted, possessed vocal. | |

Fans who complain that Elvis Presley's recordings from the '70s are too lavishly produced would do well to check out A Hundred Years From Now, a collection of undubbed masters and alternate takes from the Elvis Presley's five-day June 1970 recording session. Those sessions produced material for the albums Love Letters From Elvis and Elvis Country, records that contain great performances but that, to many, suffer from excessive overdubbing. A Hundred Years From Now allows listeners to hear these tracks as Elvis heard them during those all-night June sessions, before strings, background vocals, and extra instruments were added. | |
