Blu-Ray Region Coding Explained
Are Blu-ray and HD DVD discs region coded?
Yes! But not all are. Some have no restriction. Movies are mainly coded, concerts are usually not.
There are three region codes for Blu-ray discs:
•Region A: North America, Central America, South America, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia
•Region B: Europe (EU), Africa, Middle East, New Zealand, Australia
•Region C: China, India, Russia, rest of the world
You need to either buy a Blu-ray disc that matches the region code in your player or a non coded disc.
You will find each Blu-ray title in our shop clearly marked

DVD Region Coding Explained
Although most people these days have multi-zone/region DVD players not all do so here we explain what this means. You can have your DVD player converted to be region free at any time but it is best to make sure of this when buying a new DVD player. And we recommend you do so!
There are six world Regions for DVD. We mark each DVD in our shop that is region coded, for example ;
Region 4 Australia is
Region 1 USA is
- Not
all DVDs are encoded, some are made without a restriction
and are referred to as either region 0 or Region Free.
These are marked
in our shop.
If your DVD player is restricted to a certain region you can only buy DVDs encoded for that region and/or region 0/Region Free DVDs. But with a 'multi zone player you can play all regions.
You also need to remember the picture format of the DVD. There are two main picture formats, PAL for Australia, Europe and most of the world and then there is NTSC for the USA, Canada and Japan.
Also read about PAL and NTSC.
