Elvis Presley 180 gram 12" Vinyl Record
| Elvis Presley Vinyl LP : 180 gram 12" Vinyl LP Album : Exclusively remastered 180 gram audiophile vinyl pressing. When Elvis first broke on the national scene, nobody--not RCA, not Elvis' manager Colonel Tom Parker, and certainly not Elvis himself--had any idea how long his popularity would last. Most assumed that rock and roll was a passing fad and that Presley would soon be relegated to the 'where are they now' bin. Unsurprisingly, RCA rushed Presley's first album to market before Elvis had recorded enough new material for an entire record. The result, ELVIS PRESLEY, is a cut-and-paste job consisting of seven RCA recordings and five older tracks licensed from Sun Records, Presley's first label.
Still, 'Elvis Presley' is a monumental record in the history of rock and roll, from its iconic cover (which The Clash later paid homage to on the cover of LONDON CALLING) to the twelve great tracks to its unprecedented sales figures (it topped the Billboard album charts for 20 weeks). The RCA material includes Elvis' arrangement of 'Blue Suede Shoes' and covers of R&B hits 'Money Honey', 'Tutti Frutti', and 'I Got a Woman.' The record is short (29 minutes) and the material it contains is available on lots of other discs, but if you must have the record that started a revolution, this is the one to get.Elvis Presley is rock & roll. It doesn't get simpler than that!
Elvis Presley is rock & roll. It doesn't get simpler than that. Elvis Presley was one of the prime architects of the music. As such, he influenced several generations both musically and socially. The songs presented on Elvis' Golden Records are among his finest. The urgency in Elvis Presley's voice is just one part of the equation. The ease with which he swings through the material tells the rest of the story. Equal parts balladeer and rockabilly king, Elvis Presley played both sides of the fence. He was both tender Love Man and hard-hitting rebel. As this collection proves, his genius was in the way he made it work.

180 gram vinyl is considered audiophile grade and most new releases and re-releases available today come out in this format. The record is thicker and heavier so it may be less prone to warping over time. Some claim sonic benefits on 180 gram's like better stereo imaging, less noise, wider bandwidth, etc. Another factor is 'virgin' vinyl (often a feature hand in hand with 180 ggam and heavier LPs) which uses no recycled plastic which can contain impurities leading to a noisier record.
