He Touched Me features more than forty of Elvis’ gospel songs, He Touched Me: The Gospel Music Of Elvis Presley explores his faith and the prominent role that gospel music played hroughout his life as witnessed by those who knew him well. - 2 DVD set. Anecdotes, by Gospel greats Ed Enoch (The Stamps), the late J. D. Sumner (The Stamps), Jake Hess (The Imperials), Myrna Smith (The Sweet Inspirations), Ray Walker (The Jordanaires) and many more, trace Elvis' Gospel roots and are skilfully interwoven with performances of Elvis singing Gospel music. The overdubbing and overlays are meticulously done meshing well with the overall content and are complimented by the excellent clarity, color and superior audio quality of this two part documentary. The highlight for me personally was seeing the late J. D. Sumner as a young man and later as most of us remembers him singing bass with Elvis just having a good time singing Gospel music. Finally our compliments to all involved on a very professional job on your superb production and many thanks for showing so many people a side of Elvis that was never completely known until now. We also found it very fitting the documentary is dedicated to the memory of Elvis Presley and J. D. Sumner. The videos maintain the same high quality visual and audio attributes of the TV documentary and are each augmented by an additional 30 minutes of running time - for a total running time of 90 minutes. A lot of care has been taken in choosing the right cover photos for the video packaging. The light tinting of the photos gives them a very soft tranquil look that enhances the over all look of the packaging. Disc 1 1 - Crying In The Chapel **** Track 20 - Although not mentioned on the actual track listing on the back of the CD this is a live version Disc 2 1 - (There'll Be) Peace In The Valley (For Me) **** **** Track 1 - Although not mentioned on the actual track listing on the back of the CD this is a live version from the Ed Sullivan Show **** Tracks 5-6-7-8-9 - Although not mentioned on the actual track listing on the back of the CD these are live versions from the "On Tour" Gospel jam session **** Track 18 - Although not mentioned on the actual track listing on the back of the CD this is a live version from the "Aloha" special **** Track 19 - Although not mentioned on the actual track listing on the back of the CD this is a live version - featuring the great bass voice of the late J. D. Sumner. **** Track 20 - Although not mentioned on the actual track listing on the back of the CD this is a live version To complete the package you need this double CD set. I must admit as much as I enjoy Gospel music - especially when sung by Elvis - my initial reaction was "Oh no not another repackaging job" - but I was amazed when I played the CDs to find all kinds of goodies. Unfortunately BMG did not mention on the actual track listing on the back of the CD that there were some live/alternate tracks on the CDs - this is unfortunate because it might detract from sales potential - however this oversight does not really detract from the overall product. Once again we have superior audio quality, excellent packaging and also an informative 22-page booklet included. In conclusion this is a well-rounded package of Elvis and his love of Gospel music - so if you are an Elvis fan or know Elvis Shop > Elvis Presley DVD's |
