By 1969, Presley was no longer an unwelcome upstart to conservative Vegas audiences. Rather, he was exactly what Vegas loves best: a long-established star who put on a very big show. Elvis In Person At The International Hotel, Las Vegas, Neveda contains highlights of the last five nights of Elvis Presley's month-long stint at the International Hotel, and it documents his Vegas show in its nascent stages. For this engagement, Elvis featured more of his own hits than he would in the future.

Elvis Presley was also more enthusiastic about performing that he would later be, as the thrill of conquering audiences had not yet given way to the tedium of constant touring. For all these reasons, ELVIS IN PERSON is many fans' favorite Elvis Presley live recording. There are occasional odd moments--an operatic soprano caterwauling behind 'Are You Lonesome Tonight?', unnecessary horn flourishes at the end of nearly every song--but they are easily overshadowed by the strengths of Elvis Presley and his rocking core band, led by guitarist James Burton.
